First Day of School - and the last first for Anna!

Today is the first day of school and although that is exciting, it is also a bit bittersweet in that it is Anna's last year of high school!  We won't dell on that and just focus on the exciting and very busy year ahead!  They are all challenging themselves in different ways and we are very proud!  

Okay, I have to do at least a little throwback to little Anna on her first day of kindergarten!  Wow!  

Fire!

There is a fire near us (but not really, it is still more than 10 miles away) but the visual of it today was alarming.  It is a massive fire (over 125,000 acres) but thankfully it hasn't had a huge impact because it is open land, but it has impacted air quality.  We are hoping it stays that way and is out soon!  

 

Hard to believe we are wrapping up summer!

The kids have been enjoying the last bit of summer.  Nothing really exciting to report.  Band camp starts on Wednesday for Anna and Olivier (8/6).  They get their schedules on Thursday (8/7) and it will be one week until school starts...!!!

All in a good Saturday!

Yesterday Olivier competed in another Saturday Showdown at the jiu jitsu studio and did really well!  He is a bit of an odd situation now that he has gotten older and tall that there aren't many for him to compete against so we weren't sure there would be someone for him to compete with and happy it worked out that there was!  The first person he went against was Mason, and no, not his brother.  But his brother Mason did go to watch and encourage him!  And Olivier won!   

For the second person he competed against, they have before and Olivier focused on using different techniques and was able to get a submission!  Nice work Olivier!  

Anna has been enjoying getting a good ride in for a few Saturdays in a row.  Knowing the school year is coming soon she is taking advantage of the ride time while she can.  She had a great ride!

Enjoying the summer!  

Fair time of year!

Yesterday we went to our county fair!  We were thankful that the weather was warm but not the typical scorching temperatures that normally happen during the fair time of year! Olivier went to pose with this statue and just about the second he went to sit down he exclaimed it was too hot!

After checking some stuff out it was time for some rides!  Matt and the kids went on this one first!  

It was fun to watch Anna's hair fly around!  

Then it was off to the log ride!  

It was rather hidden and I couldn't get the photo I wanted but here is one of them as the start the drop at the end!

It was fun to watch them!  And then it was time for this ride.  Not sure how to describe it but it was a circle shaped cart that the four of them sat on one side.  

Then we headed to the ferris wheel.  

We did a few more things then headed to dinner outside the fair.  We went back after to show the kids the different feel when the lights turn on!  Anna was very excited to ride the carousel!  

After a couple more rides, the lines for many of the rides got crazy long and the boys decided to wait out one more ride.  Anna, Matt and I walked around and as we headed back to the ride area and Matt and Anna did the mirror maze!  Fun way to end the maze!

We had a good time and left a bit after nine.  Perfect summertime fun!  

Nice Sunday!

This morning I went for a nice long walk with a friend and it was a great reminder that we live in a beautiful area!

And this afternoon we dropped Mason off at a week long engineering camp.  They stay in the dorms and it will be a full week of engineering!  We are excited that he gets this opportunity!
